Diocesan Events for Fortnight for Freedom

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse

The Fortnight for Freedom is the fourteen days from June 21 to July 4, Independence Day. This time will be dedicated to a special period of prayer, study, and catechesis that will emphasize both our Christian and American heritage of liberty. These two weeks celebrate a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power—St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. “No provision in our Constitution ought to be dearer to man than that which protects the rights of conscience against the enterprises of the civil authority.”

–Thomas Jefferson, Letter to New London Methodist, 1809.
