Deacon Mark J. Berube is a retired Chief Warrant Officer with 23 years of service as a criminal investigator (Special Agent) with the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command (USACIDC). Throughout his career, he served in various locations, including New York State, Panama, Germany, Alabama, Alaska, and Missouri. Deacon Berube had two separate tours with the Army Military Police School, where he was recognized as a Subject Matter Expert in Interviews and Interrogations and Child Sexual and Physical Abuse Investigations. He was also responsible for the leadership and management training of junior and senior warrant officers. His roles included Military Police Officer, Special Agent, Special Agent-In-Charge, Battalion Staff Officer, and Deputy Director of the Investigations Division with the US Army Military Police School.
Currently, Deacon Berube is the Special Agent in Charge of the Syracuse Field Office with the National Background Investigations Bureau (NBIB) – Office of Personnel Management. In this role, he supervises 21 background investigators across the state of New York, excluding New York City. The NBIB conducts background investigations for individuals requiring security clearances or positions of trust with the U.S. Military, federal government, or government contractors. Drawing from his previous experience, Deacon Berube developed an Investigative Interviewing Techniques Course, which was later incorporated into the Federal Background Investigator Training Program.
