Sock Distribution to Charitable Organizations on Holy Thursday Syracuse, New York -- The Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Syracuse and Sock Out Cancer, LLC have teamed up once again, raising funds for Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital and donating socks to local charitable organizations.

Over the course of the past year, the Catholic School students focused on raising money through the sale of Sock Out Cancer socks. The sale of socks resulted in net proceeds of $4,005 being contributed to support children who are being treated for cancer at the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse.
On Holy Thursday, April 6 at 11 am, Bishop Lucia will be joined by William Crist, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Bruce Boyea and Kirk Gravely of Sock Out Cancer, LLC in front of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to acknowledge this act of kindness and service on behalf of Catholic School students. Additionally, seven local charitable organizations will be given dozens of socks to distribute to the clients they serve.

The organizations are:
Catholic Charities of Broome County
Catholic Charities of Onondaga County - Men's Shelter
Francis House
In My Father's Kitchen
Joseph's House
Samaritan Center

The donation of socks to each of these charitable entities results in a matching gift to the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital by Sock Out Cancer as it is making a matching donation to the hospital by way of the Catholic school students’ sock donation to the charities.

The socks are unique in appearance offering the identified color of each type of cancer that impacts each family in one way, directly or indirectly. Recognizing the enormous emotional and financial strain and other challenges cancer brings to patients and their families, Sock Out Cancer, LLC, is a nonprofit initiative whose mission is to assist financially distressed cancer patients and their families pay for non-medical necessities such as food, transportation, and housing so patients can focus their energy on fighting cancer.

The Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Syracuse represent twenty-one schools in the seven- county area of the diocese. Each school offers a Catholic school education steeped in faith, excellence and service. The high academic standards and deep Catholic faith provide a unique education for students from pre-K -12 th grade. Service to members of our society is grounded in the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Instilling the gift of service is a defining pillar in the important mission of our schools and the Catholic Church.
