God's Plan for the Family

Take Action

  • Celebrate your wedding anniversary with family and friends.  Parish leaders: ask parishioners to provide wedding photos for a special bulletin issue or bulletin board celebrating milestone anniversaries in connection with World Marriage Day.

  • Send anniversary cards.  Parish Leaders: have children in Faith Formation classes or youth groups make anniversary cards and send them to parishioners on their anniversaries or Valentine’s Day.

  • Initiate conversations with young people you know who are considering marriage.  Point them to foryourmarriage.org, where they can find solid advice on finding a mate, dating, marriage prep, and even planning a wedding.  Educate yourself on Catholic teaching about marriage as a sacrament.

  • Offer to babysit for married couples so they can have a night out.  Studies show couples need date nights!  Couples can find great date Ideas here.

  • Make parish ministry more family-friendly.  Offer service opportunities on weekends when families are available.  Create simple opportunities for children to perform acts of service around the parish, such as organizing a “leaf-raking party” or flower-planting event; don’t forget the after-event treats!

  • Attend a diocesan marriage workshop.  Check out the events calendar on the Office of Family/Respect Life website, where you’ll find workshops ranging from retreats to date nights to help for marriages (Third Option Program).  To find online Catholic counseling, see CatholicCounselors.com
